Loch Lomond is about 25 minutes drive, along a beautiful route, and the Trossachs, the area famous for Rob Roy McGregor and its lovely scenery. (www.lochlomond-trossachs.org). Stirling is 30 minutes drive on the faster motorway, or about 40 minutes over the lovely Campsie Fells and Fintry Hills. The Castle there, the Wallace Monument and the Bannockburn Heritage Centre and a stroll round this historic town will give you a good day out and a taste of Scottish History! (www.visitstirling.org)

Or sail from there down the Firth of Clyde on PS Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world (www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk)
Edinburgh is only 45 miles to the East, along good roads, with its famous castle, impressive old town, magnificent Scottish Parliament buildings, St. Giles Cathedral, Scott Monument, Princes Street Gardens – or go and meet the pandas in Edinburgh Zoo! (www.edinburghzoo.org.uk).
